About KevinĀ - Rocket Scientist to Master Tutor
Hi, I'm Kevin, and I teach students how to be great learners.
From super nerd Ā š¤
Growing up in rural Indiana, there wasnāt a whole lot to do. My brother and I entertained ourselves by riding bikes and playing basketball. When I wasnāt doing those things, I had my nose in a book - being a nerd. Along the way, I discovered one thing I really excelled at: School.
When everything is laid out clearly and the learning comes easy, it feels like winning is the only option. That was my life.
My friends and I were the first to take algebra in middle school. We took the SAT in 8th grade as part of the Midwest Talent Search (because, of course, we were that cool), and we aced all the advanced classes our school offered. We did all the classic nerdy thingsāBoy Scouts (yes, Iām an Eagle Scout) and Academic Decathlon (Iāve still got the state medals to prove it). I graduated 18th out of 457 in my class and even made it as an alternate candidate for a U.S. Naval Academy appointment.
When the path is clear and everything clicks, excelling feels easy. That was my world for a long time.

To academic failureĀ š¤¦š¼āāļø
Then I went to Purdue, confident I could crush any subject they threw at me. Aerospace Engineering? Sure! I nailed calculus, chemistry, and physics, but then Electrical Engineering 201 came along and brought me back down to Earth. I failed. Twice.
This was my crash course in a harsh reality: failing doesnāt mean youāre a failure. For the first time, I had to actually learn how to learn. I also had to be open to leaning on others, building strategies, and realizing that success takes more than just showing up.
If your student is struggling with studying or preparing for the SAT or ACT, they donāt have to go it alone. Having a group of peers makes all the difference.

To Rocket Scientist and Master Tutor š§
After earning my degree in Aerospace Engineering, I doubled down on grad schoolātwiceāand earned both an MSEd and a Master of Divinity. Along this path, I figured out how to actually learn for myself, honing my techniques. In 2008, I stumbled into tutoring while transitioning out of full-time ministry and started working toward a PhD in Learning Science.
Fast forward 16 years and 9,000 hours of tutoring later, and Iāve helped countless students crush the SAT and ACT. Iāve got the content knowledge and strategies to get results.Ā

Ā
AndĀ Speaking and Group Sessions š§š¼āš«Ā
I donāt just work with students one-on-one. I also speak to groupsāwhether itās students, parents, sports teams, or teachersāabout mastering high-performance learning, test prep, and study skills.
From SAT and ACT strategies to building better study habits, I can tailor a talk to fit your groupās needs.
